At rank 34 of BusinessWeek’s “Outstanding Class” list, Apple has made it into the 2007 top list for revolutionising the cell phone market, in the same way it changed the music industry with its iPod.
Praised in BusinessWeek’s Apple Profile’s for its innovation and success in reviving its business. Apple, a once-dominant computing power in the 80’s - to “Microsoft’s whipping boy”, has bounced back and is revitalising its sales, and taking out 90% of the song downloading business.
Though it has taken out only 5% of the PC market, BusinessWeek says, Apple sales are on the rise. At StealthyTech, once again we look at what makes the AppleMac brand so great, and why BusinessWeek chose it to place in the top 50 “outstanding class” companies.
As far as the computer industry was concerned, Mac was the lead in computer processing in the 80s. Microsoft was having trouble getting off the ground, Apple was far more experienced, it had released both the Apple I and II in the 70s and early 80s - and in 1984 made the first computer ‘usable by anyone’ with a GUI - the Macintosh.
Imitations and improvements were not far off though, and in the late 90s Apple started to go under. By 2001 Apple’s market share was at a critical level.
Part of the reason Apple is now in the Top 50 Outstanding Class firms is because of its innovation in reviving its company. A revised marketing strategy brought the company back to life - part of this was the iPod, which according to BusinessWeek dominates 70% of the music player market and 90% of the downloadable song market.
Apple’s new advertising campaign may have played a part as well, and although the Mac only holds 5% of the PC market, that figure is expected to rise within the next few years.
With the Apple TV on it’s way (we reviewed it here) and the iPhone set to revolutionise the portable phone, internet and music industry, a duplicate to the iPod’s success, and with sales increasing, it is no wonder that BusinessWeek has classed it as a company whose ’star is destined to rise.’
Apple currently makes US $4 billion turnover every year, and you can take a look at the ranked 34 company’s website here.
