Taking a long car trip or flight in economy-class? The latest from Apple will link your iTunes… not to your computer, but on your very own wireless TV.
Here’s what Apple has to say about their latest product line: “Say you’ve just downloaded Cars from iTunes. Instead of huddling around your computer to watch, you pop some popcorn while your computer wirelessly syncs your new flick to Apple TV. Then you pull up a seat, put up your feet, and pick up the included Apple Remote to play your movie on TV. Give yourself a hand: You’ve just changed the way you watch digital media.”
This wireless 1.09 kg and 197×197x28 mm iTV is new, shipping currently to stores near you.
Some of the Apple TV’s many capabilities are:
- 1.0 GHz
- 802.11 b, g, n wireless networking (It’s compatable with the new Apple Airport Extreme)
- 350 MHz underclocked system bus ‘
- 2 MB of L2 cache
- 40 GB hard disk
- USB 2.0
- Works with Apple Remote
What’s more, you can connect it wirelessly to your digital TV - yes, that’s right - wirelessly, and control the TV from there. Whether you’ve downloaded Stormbreaker or Run, Lola, Run you can watch it on the big screen, like a wireless DVD player.
Here’s how it works; you download a few movies to your Apple TV, and use that to power your digital TV, no cables attached. And if you want to take your TV on a car trip, simply use its large 40-GB hard disk to save your favourite movies and off you go - no more crowding around a tiny iPod Video! A remote also control comes with the Apple TV.
Not only can you watch movies, but you can put your pictures on like a slideshow. And for $299, the compact slideshow presenter, movie and media player, and wireless DVD player for your larger screens - it’s totally worth it. For home, officework or travelling - the Apple TV is a must-buy.
Available in stores from mid-March, the Apple TV should be currently in shipment to stores near you.
