Most all of us are fans of Digg, and even more of us are certainly Kevin Rose fan boys. But getting your stories submitted from your blog rated as “Popular,” or especially getting front page attention, can be a challenge. Let’s face it, 99% of your submissions probably won’t even make it past the “Upcoming” section. I’ve been browsing around Digg since it’s beta days, and have a pretty good idea about what makes Diggers Digg.
What makes ‘em want to Digg:
- Having original content is most important. If you see a similar or same story in the submission process, it’s most likely to not go over 10 Diggs. No one wants to read stuff they read just the other day. So remember, fresh and original content is best.
- Using tags such as [PICS] or [PICS/VIDEO] before or after your title will attract many people to click and view your content. But don’t just throw up any random picture, as then you’ll get unhappy readers who just click the X and go back to Digg.
- Titles are also pretty much the most important aspect of getting someone to come view your content. Good and informative yet intriguing titles are what people get interested in. Just like a thread in a forum, “help me!!!1!11!!!” will get less attention than “I can’t get WordPress cache to flush, any ideas?” with the same content.
- Having a Digg plug-in on your blog, directly in the post, will increase Diggs, it means ease of use and conviniance for the reader.
- Proper grammar and spelling are a must. No one wants to click “tecknowlagy’s top 10: ur favorites” because with a title like that, no one’s going to think you’re much of an intellectual, and who wants to read all that cheat-speak rubbish, anyways?
- Keeping language clean also helps. Offensive material wards people away, plain and simple.
All these tips are helpful in getting you diggs, and just getting you hits to your blog/site. Just remember to keep it original, and get rid of all the bad grammar/spelling content, as well as all the ‘cheat-speak’ to keep it looking smooth. It’s all about the reader, remember that and you’re golden!
