An estimated 90% of Mozilla FireFox users are infected with that pesky default search setting Search.Myway.com. Some people don’t even know it! However, if you’ve recently bought a Dell, chances are, you have it as well pre-installed.
Why is having this a bad thing? Well, normally firefox is designed to have you enter keywords, and then Google will handle this request and bring you directly to the website that best matches your keyword query. However, MyWay forces you to look at their search results which sometimes will include pesky ads and such. They ADD a middle man, slowing your productivity and wasting your time.
This is a little guide that will help you get rid of the keyword search page in a few simple steps. Not sure if you have it? Type a keyword in the URL bar, such as “Tech”. If you’re directed to search.myway.com, then you’re infected and should read on to the 4 steps that take less than a minute to complete!
So, Mozilla users, how do you get rid of it exactly? Easy! Simply type about:config in the browser’s URL box at the top. This will bring you to the configuration system for all aspects of FireFox. It’s bassicly the registry editor for your browser. Here you can configure the pipelines, default searches, any boolean operators that control the way you view the internet, and just about everything else. But what we’re looking for is your Keyword default search tool.
- In the about:config Filter box, type in Keyword.URL
- Right click this and select Modify.
- In the box that shows up, clear everything out andpaste in the followig string: http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=
- Click OK and begin browsing! You’re now cured
All of your keyword searches now have nothing to do with MyWay and will go directly to that Keyword’s page.
Edit: Okay readers, a lot of you are getting a little salty over the statistics. My source is myself. I sampled 50 users via IM that I pulled off of a few forums that I frequent. 39 people asked said they were infected, 6 were unknown, and 5 said they were clean.

90%? Cite your sources.
This thing has infected all 3 PCs on my home network, 2 of which are XP and the last runs Ubuntu, all 3 run firefox. Nothing is in add/remove, no BHOs are present, spybot comes up clean, and even after changing DNS servers problem persists. This thing is EVIL.

Thankyou very much!
Umm this is great and all…
But then the gay search.myway thingy keeps coming back.
it works but for some reason comes back after closing firefox, as others have said. is there a different way to solve this? its incredibly annoying
OMG, I wanted to thank you for posting this. I used to be able to type and have it go straight there, but something changed one day and it started going to myway. Now it’s back the way I like it. Thanks!!
There are so many people here commenting stuff. I’m not trying to correct your mistakes, I’m just not agree with any single word
I tried this at least 30 times before reading this. I tried to find this *%&”§* in the .js-Files in all firefox directories including the hidden ones in the User-Data; I even reinstalled Firefox five times and still could not get rid of it. I checked my registry and my whole disk for kewords like mywebsearch and myway and still did not find a way to solve the problem…
Problem solved. It was the Neopets toolbar…
Somehow I find it very impudent to place adware in this kind of program many children use…
Whenever I restart my browser, the search.myway thing comes up in the keyword.URL line again.
Is it supposed to do that?
If so, then why?
If not, how do I fix it?
I’ve tried uninstalling the toolbar, but then I can’t use the alert thing.
So yeah… Thanks!
