The 2008 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) was pretty fun this year, although most of the hype was around different displays from short throw projectors to the 150-Inch Plasma T.V., and even Alienware’s huge Curved Monitor. There was a lot of other stuff that we enjoyed quite a bit that sometimes got buried by the hype, so here’s our list of the top 5 favorite things and their pictures from C.E.S. 2008.

#5: The WiFi Mini SD card was really cool to see in action. In 1 and 2 Gigabyte formats, the card allows network access to allow file transferring, device syncing, and anything else you can think of. No extra software is needed, and it supports ANY device that has mini SD compatibility since all the hardware and software technologies are built right into the card.

#4: Bill Gates Final Keynote, a sad and happy time. Bill, for the first time since he was 17, will not have his full time at Microsoft any more. His Keynote was quite interesting, talking about the digital decade and stuff like Xbox’s OnDemand etc. At the end he rocked out to Guitar Hero 3 with special guest stars on Guitar. It’s been fun Bill! At least make a guest appearance at C.E.S. 2009?!

Alienware_Screen#3: Alienware’s Huge Curved Quad DLP Screen was a big hit at C.E.S. 08. The most amazing thing about this screen is the impeccable 0.02ms response time! That’s amazingly fast. It features a resolution of 2880×900. It’s actually 4 rear-projection screens all rolled into one. In the demo the seams between the screens were visible, but the Alienware rep told us that that wouldn’t be the case on the release date later this year. We didn’t catch any of the pricing information or the exact date of release.

short_throw-projector#2: PLC-XL50 Short Throw Projector. This projector isn’t too amazing when you look at the specs. 1,024 x 768 resolution, 2,000 lumens and a 4:3 aspect ratio. But once you see this thing project an 80-Inch image on your wall with only 3 inch distance! That’s an amazing feat in short throw projectors. It will take over your whole wall even if you have next to no room to put it. It’s mounting options are nearly endless. Not to mention, it supports multi-colored screens. So if you want to project it on a blue wall, set it to do so and it will look like it’s on a high quality white reflective screen. Nice! It will only set you back $3,295…

#1: Of course #1, the most talked about was the 150-Inch Plasma T.V. This beast sports a 2k x 4k resolution. It can display an elephant in actual size! This thing is amazing to read about, but to see it in person is just breath taking. It’s absolutely amazing to see this monster display different super high res images. Of course, right now there isn’t any type of interface that will support that massive resolution. This T.V. is more of a concept thean anything, and isn’t the most practical thing you could buy. After all, you’d have to crane lift the thing into your house…
