Wikia-searchWikia’s founder, Jimmy Wales (of Wikipedia as well) announced the new extension of wikia.com, the Wikia Search Engine. Wikia is adding a few new twists on the whole search engine thing though. They will of course use the ranking and algorithm system that companies like Google, Yahoo, and MSN use today, but they will also allow the users to rank the search results by themselves. This will add human intervention to the rankings, and will eventually eliminate link-spam sites and will promote not-so-well-known sites that have good, rich content get searched a lot more.

You will also be able to attach your profile to certain search results that you feel you are an expert in, or show a particular interest in the subject. Users can also create mini-articles that sit on the top of results pages. As with any Wiki, users will be able to edit them as the wish.

But, best of all, the whole engine is Open Source. (more…)

What’s interesting? Well, aside from the obvious, the fact that it’s free is pretty cool. It’s almost like having the iPhone, but no service plans, and a cheaper device. It still seems a bit unpractical, but cool nonetheless.

Sprint_LogoI had always thought paying $99.99 for my lighting fast internet was expensive, but recently a woman by the name of Krystyl checked her mail only to find a bill for the amount of $14,062.27, all for her Go Anywhere Sprint Wireless Service. What makes matters worse is she was on a 30 Day Free Trial… for “unlimited” internet access for $59.99 a month. Unfortunately for Krystyl, this wasn’t the beginning of her problems. Just see her YouTube Video:

  • Goog-adsenseI’ve received a few messages from new bloggers or website owners asking about the tax system when it comes to filing with your Google Adsense earnings. Especially now with Tax Season on the horizon. The biggest question most people bring up first is, ‘Do I have to report my Google earnings when filing my taxes?” Very simply put, yes. However, the deductions involved, and the taxes owed to the government varies depending on the user.

In this little informative guide I will give you all the run-down on how taxes are managed with Google Adsense, and other revenue services on the web. I will touch on subjects such as what is taxable, how to determine how you should go about filing, and much more useful information including how to get your cell phone paid for, get some gas money, and get any other expenses like computer purchases covered by the government!

MyWayAn estimated 90% of Mozilla FireFox users are infected with that pesky default search setting Search.Myway.com. Some people don’t even know it! However, if you’ve recently bought a Dell, chances are, you have it as well pre-installed.

Why is having this a bad thing? Well, normally firefox is designed to have you enter keywords, and then Google will handle this request and bring you directly to the website that best matches your keyword query. However, MyWay forces you to look at their search results which sometimes will include pesky ads and such. They ADD a middle man, slowing your productivity and wasting your time.

This is a little guide that will help you get rid of the keyword search page in a few simple steps. Not sure if you have it? Type a keyword in the URL bar, such as “Tech”. If you’re directed to search.myway.com, then you’re infected and should read on to the 4 steps that take less than a minute to complete!

Digg LogoMost all of us are fans of Digg, and even more of us are certainly Kevin Rose fan boys. But getting your stories submitted from your blog rated as “Popular,” or especially getting front page attention, can be a challenge. Let’s face it, 99% of your submissions probably won’t even make it past the “Upcoming” section. I’ve been browsing around Digg since it’s beta days, and have a pretty good idea about what makes Diggers Digg. (more…)

    HeadphonesAccording to CNet:

“If you depend on the sounds of Internet radio to get you through your workday, don’t be surprised if your headphones pipe out little more than dead air next Tuesday. In protest of the elevated royalty fees Webcasters are poised to begin owing to the record industry next month, Internet radio operators are planning to stage a ‘day of silence.’”

Radio stations such as Live365 and AccuRadio were already agreed as soon as the idea was proposed, while recently major stations such as Yahoo, Rhapsody, MTV and 30+ other stations (and growing) have agreed to the idea that the increased royalty is simply nothing but a pure act of greed and are all very happy to participate in this day of silence.

What most of you aren’t thinking of is the business side of all this. One day off line for some of the bigger stations means thousands of dollars not gained by ads and other revenue streams. These internet radio companies are sacrificing a lot, but are also supporting a righteous cause and we here at ST are behind them 110%!

Google EarthNot long ago satellite imagery was a safeguarded secret amongst the government and other higher officials. Soon after, it started becoming available to people who were willing to pay big bucks to have an image sent to them in the mail, which was mainly used for property retail. And now, it’s commercially available to anyone who can type “Google Earth.”

Problem is, online mapping software such as Google Earth allows an outer space view of the earth, and along with that, the ability to zoom in to street level.

“To talk about danger is, if I may, really is irrelevant because it’s there,” said Lt. Gen. David Deptula, deputy chief of staff for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. “No one’s going to undo commercial satellite imagery,” he told reporters in Washington.

When asked if any restrictions or blackouts on such software was to be implemented by the army, Deptula said there was no such plans or intentions, instead, “governments are trying to mitigate the effect through camouflage, concealment and deception.”

Hmmm, sounds interesting. I can’t wait to see a camo blanket as big as an air force base :)

The Mac Strikes BackThe Apple Tiger OS X was ahead of its time in digital graphics, functionality and design, and that was back in 2005; before Vista, and before Microsoft had a chance to unviel Home Server, and a range of other surprises.

And now, the Mac strikes back.

The new Leopard OS X is the new talk of Apple; an operating system said to surpass anything before it with its graphics, layout - you name it. Maybe it doesn’t have Vista’s full capabilities, or Home Server quite yet.

But if you haven’t heard about Leopard OS X, you’re missing out on the latest in sleek, design., brought to you by the company who released the first GUI in the world…

PhotoShop FeatherLatley there has been a spike in the number of photoshop tutorials out there on both YouTube and MetaCafe. Now, these home videos have a.. certain limit when it comes to actual video quality, but a lot of them are actually pretty decent. There’s no better way to learn then to have someone right on your computer screen telling you what to do next (not that we like being told what to do or anything….).

Here are some of the many links you can follow to any of these videos:
